Five
(5) Year Program:
Accepted applicants in the five (5) year program are required to attend classes two (2) nights a week. The five (5) year program is divided into two categories: Service and Pipefitting. Either provides a very rewarding career. Applicants are asked to choose either category during the interview. The night time classes allow you to work full time for one of our participating contractors. Class hours are from 6:00 P. M. until 9:30 P. M. Since our program is part of Broward County and Miami-Dade County Public Schools, we follow the system’s calendar year. The classroom related instruction begins shortly after your acceptance, usually the third week of August and ends in May. Our programs follow a progressive – type educational format. Over the course of the 5 year program, you will accumulate 1260 hours of classroom related instruction and approximately 10,000 hours of on the job training. This makes our programs truly unique: EARN WHILE YOU LEARN. After each successfully completed year, you will obtain an increase in your salary. |

Tuition
The classes are offered tuition-free. You only
have to pay for your books. The books are sold to you at a cost that
amounts to about $150 - $200/year. Your initial investment is very
minimal.

Pay
Rate
The apprentice pay rate is a percentage of the current R-1 journeyman’s scale. With each year of apprenticeship that is completed, the percentage increases until journeyman’s scale is reached. Additional increases to the percentage are granted during the course of apprenticeship with the acquisition of certain licenses and certifications that are required before completing the program.

Benefits
An insurance policy becomes
available at the beginning of your second year. This policy covers you and
your spouse and children. More information regarding this coverage will be
made available when the coverage begins. Also, a much needed pension plan
is provided at the beginning of the fourth year. Wages, insurance, and
pension are all part of the negotiated package between labor and
management. Truly a small investment for a long-term reward.
